Book Review: XO by Jeffery Deaver
XO by Jeffery Deaver
Jeffery Deaver is one of the best thriller writers in the world writing today – and his latest novel is a page-turning read with memorable characters and a plot that will keep you guessing right until the end. Singer-songwriter Kayleigh Towne’s life is turned upside down when a fan begins stalking her. Mistaking her form letters that she signs off with ‘XO’, Edwin Sharp is convinced that she loves him and that her latest hit song ‘Your Shadow’ was written especially for him. He sends her a deluge of emails, letters and presents, and despite warnings from her lawyers, he turns up in person in her home town where she is preparing for a big concert.
One of Jeffery Deaver recurring characters, Kathryn Dance, a CBI agent and expert in body language analysis, is holidaying in the area when one of Kayleigh’s crew is brutally murdered. A friend of Kayleigh, Kathryn makes herself available to the local police investigating. Horrifically, it seems that Edwin Sharp could be responsible and he appears to be using verses from ‘Your Shadow’ as a warning before he kills. He has already played the first verse, but there are three more to go...
What follows is a brilliantly plotted book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Lincoln Rhyme, Jeffery Deaver’s forensic criminalist, also makes a guest appearance – something that is sure to keep Jeffery Deaver’s many fans happy. And Edwin, the crazed fan who appears to be murdering people around Kayleigh, is a smart but creepy man. He’s most certainly a delusional stalker, but is he also a murderer, or is he being framed? This novel is classic Deaver and is highly recommended for lovers of psychological thrillers.
