Book Review: Private Lives by Tasmina Perry
Private Lives by Tasmina Perry
Tasmina Perry is an author with a reputation for delivering gripping and glamorous novels that are wonderfully escapist and Private Lives is no exception. This novel is centred on the character of Anna Kennedy. She is a new associate in a media law firm but when she fails to prevent a story about heart-throb movie star Sam Charles caught in a one night stand appearing in the newspapers around the world, she ends up not just fighting for his reputation but also her own. But the tension is ramped up further when Anna discovers a scandal bigger than Sam Charles indiscretion. There is a dead party girl and the people responsible for her death will do anything to keep the truth covered up.
Tasmania Perry spins an entertaining story which is a step up from other chick lit titles. One interesting part of this novel is the difference between people’s real lives and the media spin around them. Sam Charles is supposed to be one half of America’s favourite couple with his fiancé actress Jessica – but is this a true love match or a convenient branding exercise? This is a novel bursting with wonderful characters, but it is Anna who takes centre stage as the feisty and compelling main character. She loves her career, but her love life has stalled – that is, until Sam Charles turns up on the scene. But is he the one for her or is Sam Charles destined to go back to Jessica? For a novel set in glamorous locations, peopled with wonderful characters and twists and turns aplenty, this is the novel for you!
