Verbal appreciation

‘Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.’ Rudyard Kipling

Psychologists say that one of the deepest human needs is to feel appreciated. Simply telling someone in your family that you love them, or that you think they are special, that they did well in that rugby game or piano recital, or that you appreciate them paying the bills every month, is an easy way to show that you care. And often it is not just what you say that will make them feel loved, it is also the way you say it!

Some quotes from my book, LOVE IN AOTEAROA:

‘My family tells me that they love me and they are happy for me, or that they are concerned for me if there is a reason to be. They tell me they are proud of the person I am. I love their constant interest, support and encouragement of me and my life.’ Sarah, 22

‘I know Mummy love me. She says so all the time.’ Melanie, 7
