Dare to compliment others
‘If I had one gift I could give you, my friend, it would be the ability to see yourself as others see you, because then would you know how extremely special you are.’ B. A. Billingsly
Sincere compliments for no other reason than to make someone else feel good are the icing on the cake of life. Dare to talk about your affection. Be bold and tell you friend what you like about them. Be cautious with criticism, instead encourage and support your friends in their lives. To be the friend who inspires another to move forward more confidently in life is a beautiful act of love.
Here are some examples from LOVE IN AOTEAROA:
‘My best friend just seems to know when to ring and say something encouraging. It’s almost telepathic.’ Susie, 27
‘Vanessa my friend often says that I am a good mum and that it comes naturally to me. That makes me feel like I am doing things right.’ Kerry, 30s
‘When I got my new job I was nervous about moving to a new town and away from family and friends. My friend always pointed out the positives and made me feel capable by telling me I would be fine.’ Sarah, 22
